Valentino Rossi

I am currently translating a book on the Italian motorcycle champ Valentino Rossi. It's a coffee table book, and essentially a photo book, but it's 450 pages and 35,000 words to translate, so it may take me a while!

Greetings Canadians!

Checking my site stats, it looks like my link to the Eagles webcam on Hornby Island, British Columbia is drawing in a large audience of Canadians. I love Canadians! Long live Canadia! You are very welcome here at Flamingoo - while you're here, you can also listen to some MP3s, peruse my song info and check out some guitars. Please fell free to leave a comment on any post, I want to hear from my Canadian friends!
You can also check out my band College Pinks, London's premier purveyors of glock-rock! We would love to tour Canada!

The Eagles

Pair of nesting Bald Eagles, Hornby Island British Columbia. Fascinating. You need to be a bit patient while the Infotec ad runs, but it's well worth it. Put New Kid in Town in your CD player and while away a moment or two in the company of these majestic birds!

Click here to view the webcam.

I hear the call of the eBay

Spring has sprung, and it's time to change my backline gear once more. Up for sale goes my Line 6 AM4 Amp Modeler. And in the crosshairs is a ProCo Deucetone, essentially two ProCo Rat pedals in one indestructible box. Rock!

Melodica

The melodica really is a great instrument - it can sound like a recorder, mouth organ or even accordion! I'm working on a melodica line for the instrumental verse of my new song Bluebell. In that verse we will go from two guitars, cello drums and bass to glockenspiel, melodica, possibly mandolin, assorted percussion and maybe some humming. Maybe keeping the cello too.

MP3s added

I've now added MP3s of some songs - see sidebar --->

Rocio - recorded in my house on my Fostex digital 8-track in July 2004. Features Lois harmonising with Rob King, and Mike Mooney on the electric violin, as well as future College Pink Brendan Gleeson on US Fender Telecaster. I play Takamine electro-acoustic guitar and Regal resonator, mic'd through Shure SM58.
Hole in the sky (2000) and Harpin' On (2001) - recorded by Inspector Rosa at Bonafide Studios, Shoreditch, London.
Stalingrad - recorded by Inspector Rosa at Bonafide Studios, Shoreditch, London, 2000. Additional recording and remixing by Alan Paul, 2006.
Also, Harpin' On - live recording of acoustic trio performance - Rob King, Alan Paul & AJ Oliver - at the Acoustic Cafe, Soho, London.

All songs words and music ©AJ Oliver. Download for personal use only.

Picture is of me and Brendan Gleeson. I'm playing the Regal Resonator (the "chickenplucker") I wrote the song Rocio on. Brendan appears to be shaking his head at yet another one of my bum notes.

Casino Casino

Set list from Casino Casino gig, Madrid, 8 May 1997

Return of the Rosa?

College Pinks went all Rosa last night, exploring some of the highlights of our previous indie rock incarnation. Dirty Boy, Big Als Lament, and Stanley, three of Inspector Rosa's riffiest numbers, were given an outing. There has been talk of adding a cover to the set, but do Rosa songs count?
To listen to MP3 of Big Al Laments,go here, hit sounds, then select the song.

The Nine

Big Al has remixed The Nine - it's now sounding ninier, the bass is bassier, the guitars guitarier...
It's now playing here.
